JH, EU & OH - Audience Feedback

  • The target audience for this album/artist is because of the band and the way that the artist dresses it could possibly show more of an indie target audience.
  • However the twist at the end of the narrative could possibly be more targeted towards teenage and young adult girls
  • This is due mainly to the fact that its, in my opinion a focused viewing and the type of people that would be watching this video would have to be into watching music videos and trying to create a deeper meaning from them.
  • It was important to test our concept in pre production to an audience because it helped us to identify a target audience, and helped us gather information about certain ideas we had, in particular the location of the performance and the clothing for the artist.
  • To test our concept before the pitch we made a survey on survey monkey, giving general questions such as “What location do you think would be suitable for the performance part of our video” and gave people four options to choose from. One of the options would be our idea that we planned to use, which allowed us to see if other people agreed with what we had thought would be a good place to shoot our performance.
  • Our results showed that the clothing people wanted to see would be fairly indie, such as wearing a hat.
  • However we didn’t think at the time of our pitch about the twist of eddy going to the same church I was playing in, because initially more people thought a better location would be in the woods.
  • The only real controversy we found was where we should shoot our performance, we planned to do it in a church, however no one thought that would be an appropriate place to shoot.
  • However the church brings so many connotations and the twist created so much narrative fuzz we thought it would be for the best to go against our audience research for this particular aspect.
  • However we stuck with our initial idea and it has paid off. However the other questions that we posted either people agreed with our ideas or we were able to change our concept to suit our target audience’s needs.
  • From the results that we gained from the initial audience research about the song and the ideas we had, the results were fairly vague, the highest ranking location was the London underground, however we thought that may be impractical with the amount of people that would get in the way of our shots and people may tell us not to film there, however we had the idea of a twist at the church after the pitch.
  • This in turn made our pitch differ in our concept, we showed all the changes that we had made, and how we had chosen to stay with our initial idea of filming in a church. This helped us to whittle down our many ideas to have a more defined concept which
  • We were able to share with the class for our pitch and see what they had to say about our changes. All in all we got very positive feedback from the class so I felt very confident about the filming of our video that was about to take place.

We tested a rough cut of the video and the feedback was fairly positive, with a number of people approving of the location and the costumes in hand. We also found out that the majority found Oli's performance very convincing and that once the lip syncing was perfected the grain of voice would be beleivable. However, at the same time we found there were improvements to be made, one of which was the narrative fuzz. Although it was good to have some mystery to add to the twist at the end, it was evident that people were slightly confused in to why Edd was walking around London on his own so much with no real meaning. This is when we decided to include the shots of him on different days and in an office, to suggest he was a business man on an every day routine. Feedback also showed us that people found some of the performance shots to static and so we quickly changed this by creating more movement with certain shots of Oli.

• Finally we carried out audience research on surveymonkey.com in which we requested a select group of people, an equal ratio of teenage boys and girls, to answer it.

• Here are our questions and responses;
